3-stepped approach to cutting our carbon footprint

1. Carbon Reduction
Infrastructure Efficency
We designed our factory in Toronto, Canada to use less energy and reduce carbon emissions. We have fans that move air around to save heating and cooling costs, and we use efficient lighting. Plastic sheets are used in the warehouse to prevent heat loss and save energy.
Packaging Efficiency
We also try to be efficient with our product packaging to reduce waste and save energy during shipping. We reuse incoming cardboard boxes when possible and turn them into packaging when we can't. We vacuum-pack bulk teas into square shapes to fit more into each shipping carton, which has improved our logistics by 15%.

2. Carbon Offsets
Tree planting
We bought abandoned farmland in Ontario and planted 15,000 trees as part of the UN's Billion Tree Program and Ontario's 50 Million Tree Program. We planted 7 types of trees to promote biodiversity and offset our carbon footprint. The trees also created new habitats for endangered species like spotted turtles and black terns.

Wetland & Forest Preservation
The land we bought also had wetlands and Carolinian forest. Our tree planting helped create a buffer zone around the wetlands to protect beavers, birds, and other animals. The forest also got a natural buffer to ensure continued habitat for deer, foxes, bears, and other woodland creatures.

3. Carbon Avoidance
Solar Energy
We installed 500 Kwh solar array on the roof of our primary facility in Toronto, Canada. This array generates more than 5x the amount of electricity used by our factory, generating nearly 1 million Kwh (1000Mwh) each year.
